WHAT IS BTL EMSELLA?

BTL EMSELLA is a BIG breakthrough in the treatment of incontinence.

It is completely non-invasive and can be carried out fully clothed.

The chair has a strong magnet which creates the electromagnetic field which penetrates deep into the pelvic floor muscles creating maximum contraction of the muscles 12,000 kegels a session of 28 minutes.

BTL Emsella is so effective as it contracts the pelvic floor muscles to what is called the supramaximal level. As the treatment targets the pelvic floor muscles directly, and doesn’t require neuromuscular control, they can contract far more than they would consciously, creating the highly effective results that simply can’t be achieved using manual kegel exercises alone.

The Emsella treatment also triggers the body’s natural production processes to create new muscle fibres and proteins, which further strengthens and tones the pelvic floor and bladder muscles, and improves the neuromuscular links between the brain and the bladder, which helps significantly to treat the symptoms of urge incontinence.

So giving patients back control of their bladder.

Frequently asked questions

  • How does it help?
Blood flow is critical for a man’s erection If relevant medication works for you then this is a good sign that shockwave should work more permanently and without the side effects of medication. Shockwave - Promotes angio-genesis meaning developing of new blood vessels in the penis. Which increases blood flow to the penis and hence stronger erections are achieved Healing of smooth muscle within the penis – within most patients with EDF the smooth muscle in their penile arteries is damaged, so reducing function.
  • What does the treatment involve?
The EDF trained shockwave practitioner will have a consultation with you to determine whether you both think it is an appropriate treatment for yourself. Additionally, if there are any other recommendations and expected result. The shockwave head is used on the penis and surrounding tissue for around 15 minutes. Generally, it is normally not painful during or after treatment, but patients may have different sensations. Research and previous practice shows that 6 sessions over a 6-week period is the best protocol.
  • What results to expect?
In two thirds of cases it should improve ability to have a spontaneous erection and sustain one. Results will vary depending on the individual. Sometimes there are other factors that will need to be addressed and this will be supported by your practitioner or an additional referral. But the treatment will still be beneficial.
  • When do you see the results?
Some patients get results straight away, but the treatment optimises over a few months. If after 3-4 months the patient still does not experience a reasonable improvement, then other treatment will need to be considered.
  • Are the results permanent?
The biological effects of shockwave therapy are permanent and have been established on a basic science level. However, erectile dysfunction depends on the lifestyle of patients and is usually a symptom of underlying health issues which lead to ED. Due to these underlying conditions, this means that the improvements after the treatment potentially might be reversed over time if the underlying conditions are not addressed. The studies so far have only been followed up a year later, but results show that the treatment works after one year from the treatment.
